Module 6: How technology foster
innovation
Changes
in technology are because of technological innovation that will lead to a new
or improved technology. Technology is changing in two directions: one provides
better performance and satisfies the demands and needs of increasing human
potential.
Better performance of technology means higher speed, greater capacity,
improving cost effectiveness, higher efficiency, increased reliability, reduced
labor effort, more convenience in use and also has a higher degree of automation.
For example, cars are faster, easier and safer, and will need less maintenance.
The ships are larger and require fewer crew members. Computers can perform more
operations per unit time and can store more data. Communication devices are able
additional information from a communication line to pass the time.
It is also to meet the demands and needs of human beings. For
example, washing machine or a pocket calculator do things that were not able to
do before without the aid of technology.
Thus, innovation in technology will lead to a new technology or improved
products that will be marketed.
The process of technological innovation:
Technology innovation process is a complex set of activities that
transform ideas and knowledge into practical applications to physical reality.
This process turns knowledge into products and services that have social and
economic impacts.
